Richard A. W. Bracht was the son of F.M. Bracht and Albertine (Dearnfeldt) Bracht. Albertine was b Sep 1816 in Bernstein, Prussia and that is also where she and F.M. Bracht were married. They immigrated to the United States in 1853 and in 1854 they settled in Sun Prairie, WI where F. M. Bracht would live out his life and he is probably buried there too. He died about 1871. Albertine would spend the last ten years of her life living with her son, Richard Bracht in Colby, Clark Co. WI. She enjoyed good health until about six weeks before her death. She died 2 Sept 1881. She is buried at Colby Memorial Cemetery, Colby, Clark Co, WI .At the time of her death she left to mourn her three children: Richard of Colby, WI and two daughters Lani note - The daughters are not mentioned by name or location in her obit so no other Information is known about them at this time)

Barbara (Drott) Bracht, wife of Richard Bracht, was b 27 Aug 1853 in Sheboygan Falls, WI. and that is where she lived until 1881 when she came to visit her sister, Mrs. John Roth at Hull, Clark Co WI. Here she met and fell in love with Richard Bracht. On 25 Dec 1881 they were married. They had no children of their own so they adopted a daughter (name not listed). About March 1,1898 Barbara became ill with la grippe but she had become well enough to take midday meals with her family. On Friday, 6 May 1898 she seemed in good spirits and sat up a little longer. Just after dinner she complained of fatigue and dizziness and was assisted to her bed. At about 2 pm she sat up and said she was going to faint and dropped back on the pillows. Her sister called Mr. Bracht into the room but found she had died. The funeral was held at the M.E. Church of Colby with Rev S.A. Hoffman officiating a large concourse of people attended the funeral showing the esteem of which she was held in the community. Besides her devoted husband and adopted daughter, four brothers and her sister were left to mourn her.

Richard Bracht died 23 April 1911 at his home in Florence, CA. of walking typhoid. The funeral was held April 25th and he was buried at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Los Angeles, CA. His obituary said he had been a citizen of Hull, Clark Co, WI. for many years coming from Sun Prairie, WI so I am assuming that is where he was born. The obituary also said he held offices of trust and was Clerk of the high school board for several years in Hull. He had gone to California about four years before his death and was still a member of the Hull I.O.O.F Lodge. The obituary estimated his age at about 70 and they knew he had served in the Civil War although they did not have any specific information. Upon further investigation I was able to find more information. (see below)
