L. & Hazel Maud (Warner) Flatz
Greenwood, Clark Co., Wisconsin Harvey L. Flatz Harvey L. Faltz was born in
1892. December 29, 1916, he married Hazel Maud at Terry, Montana.
She was born November 30, 1885 and was the daughter of
Leroy Ramsey and Ann (Hommel)
Warner. For several years, Leroy ran a mercantile business in Greenwood,
but later sold his store to Ben Picus. When he died, his funeral was held
in Harvey and Hazel's home. Following their marriage the newly weds operated a ranch in Montana
until 1926, when they came to Greenwood to operate a filling station. Mrs.
Flatz had attended the public schools there as a child and had family in the
area as well. Once settled in their home, Harvey joined the prestigious
Greenwood Commercial Club and participated in the Peace Memorial Dedication of
Oct. 3, 1937.
Harvey was also one of the individuals who had a bust made of himself by the
sculptor of that monument.
He and Hazel were members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in
Greenwood. In 1941 they sold the business and purchased a resort
on Bear Lake, near Loretta, Wis. where Mrs. Flatz resided even after Harvey died
in 1958. But, when she became ill, she made her home with their son, Delmain in
San Diego, California where she died, April 22, 1969. Both Harvey and
Hazel are buried in the Greenwood City Cemetery, Clark Co., Wisconsin where her
parents and many other family members are also buried. Family Notes
I was just a little girl,
but my Dad always pointed out the barn north of Greenwood (probably was
Gregorich's...I could point it out) where Baby Face Nelson stayed. My uncle
& aunt Harvey and Maud (Warner) Flatz had their Standard Station just north
of were the REA that is now in Greenwood. Baby Face Nelson stopped there
and as I recall wanted Harvey's car to drive to Marshfield. Their son
Del just turned 90 in San Diego - good mind - and I will ask him about it.
I also recall how "mobster
type" would come thru from Chicago & "unload" merchandise...my uncle got fur
coats, jewelry, etc. from them. Auntie Maud & Aunt Bessie were bright
beautiful young women , raised next door to Herman and later his son George
Schwarze in Greenwood, WI. They taught in schools west of Greenwood .
They then went to state of Wash. for awhile where some of Warners & Hommels
had moved, & then the two of them homesteaded in e. Montana, under guidance
of Pete Brick from Grnwd. who had homesteaded there. Norma Warner Telford © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
