Dr. Reginald L. Barnes,
Chiropractor Dr. Reginald L. D. C. Barnes, the son of Leslie and
Elizabeth (Breen) Barnes, was born Nov. 17, 1898 in Cresco, Howard County, Iowa.
In 1924, he married Dorothy Volk, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Galmbacher)
Volk, who was born April 22, 1901. They were members of the Catholic
Church. Dr. Barnes (right,
in 1937) belonged to the prestigious
Greenwood Commercial Club and was present for the
Banquet held in honor of the unveiling of the
Peace Monument given to the city by Ernest Durig in 1937.
He was also one of the area residents who had the artist do personal
work for him when Durig fashioned a bust the Doctor's two young
daughters, Marion and Joan (left). After the death of Dorothy's father, Anna Volk lived
in their home. However, Mrs. Dorothy Barnes died Oct. 22, 1961, preceding
her mother in death by nearly a year and a half. Dr. Barnes died October
13, 2000. Both are buried in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwood, Clark
Co., Wisconsin. Notes 1900 Census Iowa, Howard County,

Barnes died about 1903. Possibly she passed away after she giving birth to her
son; Paul I. Barnes. Leslie [Lester] Barnes died about 1934. Both are possibly
buried in Calvary Cemetery; Cresco, Howard County, Iowa. It also appears that Leslie [Lester]
Martin Barnes remarried about 1915, after his first wife’s passing. His
second wife was Anna Baethke. With this marriage Leslie had three more children
named: Mary Lucille born abt. 1917, Virgil P. born abt. 1919, Vernie Lester born
abt. 1921. Based on census records it appears
the three children from the first marriage remained with their grandparents;
Daniel [David/Dave] & Mary (Delaney) Barnes. At the age of 19 years, Reginald
Lawrence Barnes signed the registration card for World War I. He gives his birth
date as Nov. 17, 1898. He lists his address as Cresco, Howard County, Iowa. His
occupation at the time was Auto mechanic for *Ahrm [*Blurred] Bros. in Cresco,
Howard County, Iowa. He lists his father as the nearest relative.
