The family
of Henry/Gustav/Arnold/Harlan Laack immigrated from Mecklenburg/Pomerania and originally
settled in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Two sons, Henry and Fred, later moved to
Dorchester, Mayville Township, Clark County. Gustav was Henrys' son. Family Notes
Here in some
corroborated detail is a recap of what I have found in many available sources, including
this fine website.
In the 1910
census four female The recorded offspring are: Rosa, Amanda, Alma and Leona and
this census also gives us the additional births of Arnold 6,andGilbert 4.
Arnold is our Theresas' grandfather.

Immigrant Family 1853: Johann Laack
(b. 1824 ca)
in Pomerania, Prussia (Germany) with wife Maria nee Berndt (b.1822 ca) arrived in
New York on July 5,1853. With them were 3 children: Christian Friedrich "Wilhelm"
8yrs., "Heinrich" Friedrich Wilhelm 5 and "Ernst" Friedrich August 2.
On the shipping documents as recorded by the New York Port Authority, their
destination was Wisconsin. The family settled in Sheboygan County, and first appear
together in the 1860 US census in Plymouth Township. Johann (now John) and Maria
lived there until their death.
Heinrich (now Henry) and Ernst (now going by Friedrich/Fredrick, in later years
Fred) settled in Clark County in the 1870's.their first appearance is in the 1880
US census.
The 2nd Generation
Henry and Fred both have 80 acres across from each other by 1893.
At this point I shall only give data as it relates to the direct lineage of my daughter
in law Theresa Laack/Meyer. Henry and his wife Christines' first born was
a son by the name of Gustav, and he becomes the conn'tn to Theresa. Other
children of Henrys' were Mary 9,Anna 6,Charles 3 and Alvin1. This is per the
1880 census.
The 3rd Generation
The 1900 US census shows that Gustav married Minnie (nee Daeke). The actual
marriage took place May 7,1892.
The 4th Generation
Arnold marries Elizabeth in early 1930 and has several children including Harlan,
born 1935.Arnold died in Clark County inOct.1977,and with Elizabeth is buried in
Abbotsford Cemetery.
The 5th Generation
Harlan moves to Illinois after WW 2 and marries Hellen in the Libertyville/Mundelein
area. They had several children, including Theresa my daughter in law. Both
Harlan and Hellen passed away before the second Millennium was celebrated.
