The Children of
Alexander and Mary Ann (Spencer) Sires Alexander Sires (Jul 1833-1906), Mary Ann
Spencer (Nov 1836-1 Jul 1929) i. Albert N. Sires (1855-After 1932) Albert
married Angie or Anga Smith in 1881 in Jackson County, WI.. Angie Smith,
21, was a servant in Alexanders household in 1880, which could have
meant she worked in his hotel. Having been to Washington State with his
father in 1871, Albert returned the Spokane area by 1885, where he is
shown in census and directory records through 1930. He was still living
in Washington in 1932. ii. Emma Jane Sires (9 May 1856-18 Dec 1932)
An art teacher, and never married, Emma Jane moved to Montana to be with
her mother about 1906, and in 1931 she returned to Clark County, WI. Her
obituary posted on this website provides significant family information. iii. Jerome B. Sires (24 Feb 1858-12 May 1877)
Jerome, age 19 yr 2 mo 18 dy, was buried in the Stanford Cemetery,
Jackson County, WI. iv. Victoria A. Sires (Jan 1860-After 1932)
Victoria married Ansel B. Ives in 1878. They first lived in Menominee,
Michigan. By 1900 they were in Trinity County, Texas, with 3 children
living, Vera, Raleigh, and Joyce. She was mentioned as Mrs. Victoria
Ives of Evanston, Illinois in her sister’s 1932 obituary. v. Frank Sires (Probably Sep 1861-30 Jun 1864)
There were two cemetery listings for Frank
Sires in the Stanford Cemetery:
# 6 Sires Frank son of A. & M.A. d. Jun 30,
1864 AE 2 yr 8 mo 18 dy (part of #7) Children of Alex and Mary A./
Frank d. June 30, 1874 AE 2 yr 9 mo Because there are so many similarities, it
seems likely there was only one Frank. vi. Alpha C. Sires (Aug 1863-before 1910)
Alpha was living in his sister Victoria’s household in 1880. He married
Louisa Reibee. Like several other family members, Alpha moved on to
Montana, where in Great Falls in1900, he was a deputy sheriff. They had
a daughter, Della, born about 1904, but by 1910, Lula was widowed and
still living in Great Falls. vii. Irene Sires (26 Feb 1866-20 Jun 1866)
Irene, age 3 mo 25 dy, is buried in the Stanford Cemetery, Jackson
County, WI. viii. George W. Sires (31 Aug 1867-28 May
1875) George lived 7 years 8 months and 28 days and is buried in the
Stanford Cemetery with some of his siblings. (There was at least one
other George W. Sires who was born around this time and married. Some
listings may have them confused.) ix. Cora Ella Sires (Nov 1870-After 1930) Cora
married Frederic Pulling 9 Apr 1885 in Eau Claire at age 14. She was not
in the 1880 census with Alexander and Mary Ann. In 1900, Fred, Cora,
Gertrude, Bessie, and Ruth, were in Necedah, Juneau, Wisconsin. By 1920
they had moved to Everett, Snohomish, WA where they remained in 1930 Note: Cora’s parents’ birthplaces as listed in
the four census records never matched those of Alexander and Mary Ann.
They are given as NH twice, VT, and IL once each. Her own birthplace is
given as New Hampshire twice and Wisconsin twice. Another researcher who
viewed the marriage record found that her parents were Alexander and
Mary Sires. It’s not clear where she was as a child or why the other
birthplaces are given. Note: Asa Sires, who is often shown with this
family, is most likely the son of David Sires and Ellen (Webster) Sires
Straight. Census records showing Alexander with Mary
Ann: 1860 Alma, Jackson, WI, pp. 43-44; 1870 Albion (PO Black River
Falls), Jackson, WI, pp. 36-37; 1880 Alma, Jackson, WI, p.25; 1885
