The Lucken Family
Worden Twp., Clark Co., Wisconsin JACOB E. LUCKEN, of
section 14, Thorp Township, was born in Froen, Norway, September 29, 1842,
the son of Erick Lucken, deceased, a native of the same country. He
was a farm boy who received a common school education before coming to the
United States in 1866. He first resided in Vernon County, Wisconsin,
and in January, 1867, removed to Eau Claire, same State, where he worked at
the carpenter's trade two seasons, and also in the woods. In 1869 he
went to Minnesota, where for one year he worked on a farm in Houston County.
In 1870, he returned to Vernon County, Wisconsin where he spent a short time
before moving to Augusta. In the fall of 1871, he once again moved to
Clark County to settle on section 11, township 26, range 4 west, Eaton
Township. He remained there until February, 1876, when he settled on
his present farm of 160 acres, with thirty-five of them cleared. Mr. Lucken was married April 24, 1969, to Carrie
Peterson, a daughter of Peter and Annie Peterson, deceased. They have had eight
children: Christian, Edward, John, Paul and Rosie. One daughter, Annie, who
died at the age of nine years. Mr. Lucken has held the office of
Constable has been a member of the Town Board one year, and School Treasurer
several years.
Carrie (Peterson) Lucken, died at her home 5 1/2
miles southwest Thorp, Clark County, Wisconsin at the age of forty-four.
She was born at Skabo, Norway, on Christmas Day, 1848, and came to this
county in 1868. In 1870, she married Jacob E. Lucken, at Coon's
Valley, Vernon County, Wisconsin. Shortly afterward, the newly
weds moved to Minnesota. She was the mother of Chris, Edward, John,
Paul, and Rosie. She was buried in the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery near her
home, where her father was also laid to rest.
Edward Lucken
was originally buried at the
Norwegian Cemetery in
1900 but then at a later date his body was moved from there to the cemetery
on the north side of Stanley were his parents and brother and sister-in-law
(my grandparents) are buried. When he died his mother, my great
grandmother, picked wild flowers in the woods to decorate his coffin. I
have a picture of that although the picture is of poor quality.
Gilbert and Mari Lucken
sold their farm to their son, Christ and wife Edith Johnson Lucken. They
had two children, Audrey (my mother) and Edward. Christ had the flu of 1918
and his heart was damaged so the Doctor recommended they sell their farm.
They moved into Stanley and Christ died in 1920 of a heart attack. Edith
never remarried and eventually lived with us in Chippewa Falls until she
died in 1974. Audrey died in 1996 and Edward in 2000. *Edward
