Charles H. Cummings was born September 14, 1841 near Springfield, Massachusetts. Charles Cummings was the son of Israel Perkins Cummings and Mary Priscilla Hale. He married Charlotte Fitch on 2 November, 1867 in Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. They had six children; Harmettie, Louise, Eugene, Rue, Charles and Gladys.
He enlisted with Co. "C" of the 30th Regiment of the Wisconsin Infantry on August 16, 1862 serving as a Private and was discharged September 20, 1865. He died at his home June 22, 1926 and is buried in the Greenwood, Wisconsin City Cemetery. His daughter, Mrs. John Arends of Greenwood, WI was listed as his next of kin on his grave registration. His funeral was held at the Methodist Church and Job 2:26 was read: "Thou shalt come to [thy] grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season".

Charlie Cummings returned from Tomahawk Saturday and is getting along as nicely as could be expected under the circumstances, though he will have to use crutches for some time to come. Gladice went to Abbotsford to meet him.
