Bryan, Leona (Memories)

I moved to the town of Levis (Clark Co., Wis.) area from the state of Iowa when I was three years of age in 1915.  We settled on the old Markham farm.  There were my parents, George and Florence Weitgnant Broihier, three of my sisters and I.  We actually lived in the township of Pine Valley, township of Levis was across the road.  Because the walking distance was so far, we (two of my sisters and I) attended Riverside School in the town of Levis.

I remember, ears ago, our neighbor boy (Norman Opelt) and I used to run to get to the "Dick Lynch Woods in order to get protection from the cold winter winds.  We always walked to school those days; there were no school buses.  I attended Riverside School through all eight grades as did eleven of my children.  My three youngest children attended the consolidated Pine View School  (Now known as the Pine View Apartments).

Feb. 6, 1929, I married George Bryan Jr. in the town of Levis, we moved to the old Forman farm which is now owned by Carl Opelt.  We rented that place for three years and then bought the Dr. Engsburg farm across the river and have lived on this farm ever since.  Here we raised our fourteen children, who are from oldest to youngest: viola, George "Buzz", Kathleen, John, Wayne, Dean, Robert, Judy, Jean, Donald, Delwin, Bonnie, Joe and David.
