Lipke, Carl & Anne
Carl Lipke, born May 12, 1842, immigrated to the United States from Germany. He came alone to find work and land. He located at Hatfield, Wis. where he worked for the railroad. In 1882 he homesteaded on 160 acres of land in the township of Levis (Clark Co., Wis.). He then sent for his wife, Anne, whom he had married, May 12, 1878 in Brandenburg, Germany. Anne Gabler was born Feb. 22, 1847.
Carl and wife, Anne, cleared the land and built log buildings. They farmed, had several cattle, 2 horses and raised vegetables which they took to the city of Neillsville and sold to the hotels and stores. This was their home until they passed away, Anne on Aug. 17, 1920, and Carl on Oct. 9, 1927.
They had five children: Katherine, Emma, Henry, Lena and Max.
Katherine was born and passed away in infancy in 1884.
Emma, born July 28, 1886, passed away April 1976. She married Robert Bruss in Dec. 190. He passed away in August of 1959. Mr. Bruss was cheese maker in the Stone Cheese Factory for several years. They had one daughter, Edna, now Mrs. Elmer Georgas.
Henry, born Nov. 1888, passed away Jan. 1953. He married Florence White. They had five children: Harold, Myrtle, Anne, Rosalyn and Marcella.
Lena, born 1890, passed away Nov. 1966. She married Alfred Schnabel in 1906. He passed away Nov. 1942. They had ten children: Lillian, Clarence, Herbert, Harold, Verlyn, Velda, Leon, Ilene, Russell and Delbert.
Max was born in 1892 and passed away April 1939. He never married. He lived with his father until his father’s death. He then worked as a farm hand for Art Ehlers.
