Schutte, Alvin & Ethel
Alvin Schutte was born in the township of Pine Valley (Clark Co., Wis.), northwest of Neillsville in 1914. His wife, Ethel Durst was born in Fairchild, Wis., Eau Claire Co., and raised in the township of Foster (Clark Co.), about three miles east of Fairchild.
In 19338 they moved to the Blum farm in the township of Levis. They were in dairy farming and also raised mink from 1938 to 1957. They picked up down and dead animals and sold the meat to many mink farmers in the area.
In 1947 they purchased the 80 acres of land across the road. There were no buildings on it at the time, so they bought the old Rock Creek School, moved it onto the land and remodeled it for their house. A barn, shed, and other buildings were also built.
In 1971 an addition as large as the original house was added and a garage was also built.
Alvin was Levis town clerk for 12 years succeeding John Johnson, and also served on the town board as chairman.
They were parents of six children, namely, Donald, Marvin, Janice (now Mrs. Rolland Stenulson), Joanne (now Mrs. David St. John), Dianne (now Mrs. Marvin Buettner), and Darryl. Joanne and Dianne are twin daughters.
