James S. & Lydia M. (Lyons) Corzett

James S. Corzett, Civil War veteran, was born on Christmas Day in 1824 in New Jersey. He married Lydia M. Lyons, daughter of John D. Lyons, in 1852. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on Nov. 27, 1832. In the same year that they were married, they moved to Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. On Jan. 23, 1865, James enlisted in the 46th Infantry, Wisconsin Regiment and served until Sept. 27, 1865. They came to Clark County, Wisconsin in 1868 and moved to Neillsville in 1881. Their children, John, Eugene, Lettie and Harry were all born in Wisconsin. James died of dropsy at the age of 68 years on July 27, 1892 and his wife died on Oct. 6, 1903. They, with their son, Harry, are buried in the Neillsville City Cemetery, Pine Valley, Neillsville, Clark County, Wisconsin.

John D., the oldest son, was born June 20, 1856 in Plainfield, Waushara County, Wisconsin. He married Adelaide Mack of Loyal, Wisconsin. She was born in May of 1859 in Royal. They had six children: Florence, Pearl, Herbert, Ivy Bell, Eugene and Dale, all of whom were born in and around Loyal and Neillsville, Wisconsin. In 1901, this family moved to Hixton until about 1927 when they moved to Sterling, Illinois. John was a farmer, but spent winters doing logging work. In 1888, he was appointed as a mail carrier. He died December 3, 1935 in Sterling at the home of his daughter.

Eugene Corzett was born about 1859 in Wisconsin, and he married Cora Irene Cannon on May 5, 1881. She was born on Mar. 3, 1858 and was the daughter of Horace Cannon and Ann Sage. They had one son, Robert, who was born Jan. 27, 1883 and  died in March of 1965, and two daughters, Mamie and Elsie. Cora is buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Forestville, New York.

Lettie Corzett, born in January of 1861, married William Neff and they had at least two daughters, Ruby, born in Dec. 1885 and Nina, born in March of 1891. William was an electrician and Lettie was a dressmaker. In 1935 they resided in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Harry was born September 13, 1876 and died 28 July, 1884. He is buried in the same cemetery as his parents.

Florence Corzett, John’s daughter, married Harry Eugene Fox on June 10, 1895 in York, Clark County, Wisconsin. Harry was born in 1866 at Stevens, Illinois. Their children were Asa Marcelle (born March 17, 1896 in Neillsville), Freeman, who married Florence Davis on Sept. 14, 1922 at the M. E. parsonage in Neillsville, Ruth, born about 1900, Clare, born about 1902 and Ethel, born about 1904. All the children were born in Wisconsin.

Pearl Corzett, born in March of 1880, married Charles M. Mitchel on Aug. 27, 1902, in Hixton, Jackson County, Wisconsin at the home of her parents.

Herbert Corzett was born August 21, 1883 in York, and married Lenna Emily Fay on August 30, 1903. He died in May of 1904. Lenna was born May 20, 1885 in Independence, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin and they had a daughter, Myrtle, born in June of 1904.

Iva Bell was born in September of 1886 and married November 22, 1904 in Jackson County, Wisconsin to Guy Jones, who was born about 1878 in Wisconsin. Their children were Francis, born about 1908, David, born about 1909, LuAnn, born about 1911 and Wallace, born about 1914. All the children were born in Wisconsin.

Eugene, John D. Corzett’s son, was born Jan. 2, 1890 and died in August of 1968 in Rock Falls, Illinois. He married Luella, born June 11, 1894 and they had a son named Austin. Luella died January 1, 1988 in Sterling, Illinois.

Dale Corzett was born August 19, 1898 in Clark County and died October 19, 1988 in Morrison, Illinois. He married Lydia, who was born August 21, 1901 and she died in July of 1980 in Morrison, Illinois.

Freeman Fox, son of Florence Corzett, was divorced from Florence Davis in 1947. Florence was born February 4, 1897 in York and died August 15, 1981 in Marshfield, Wood County, Wisconsin. They had three children, Gerald, Luella and Dorothy.

Asa Corzett married Sarah and their children were Willis G. (born 1921 in Wisconsin), Wendel E. (born 1925 in Wisconsin) and Paul. They resided in Jackson County, Wisconsin. Sarah was born Feb. 21, 1911 and died in March of 1967 in Morrison, Illinois.

Mamie Corzett married Max Luder and they had at least two children. In 1910, they resided with her parents in Chautaugua, New York. Max was a carpenter. Mamie’s sister, Elsie, born in 1890, married James Grover Gage, who was born Nov. 18, 1885, the son of James Christopher Gage and Sarah Permelia Cole. Mr. Grover was the proprietor of a meat market in Hanover, New York and he died August 6, 1960. Elsie died May 2nd, 1972 and they are both buried in Forestville Pioneer Cemetery, Forestville, New York.

Robert’s Corzett’s spouse, Mable, was born about 1890. They had a son, Donald, born on July 1, 1915 and a daughter, Nina, born about 1923. Donald died May 11, 1998, his last residence being in Fredonia, New York.
