David S. & Fanny (Roscoe) Evans

Pine Valley Township, Clark Co., WI

David S. Evans was born in New York in 1838.  He married Fanny (Roscoe/Rusco) about 1847 and were represented on the 1850 Federal Census in West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin.  They were farmers with an estimated value of $600 dollars in Real Estate.

Fanny was also born November 16, 1824, in Onondaga, New York.  She was the daughter of Reuben and Sarah (Layton) Roscoe (aka Rusco).  Their fist daughter, Mary Louisa was born in 1848, Arilla J., July 23, 1850; David Eugene in 1853; Julia 1856; and Wilford "Henry" in 1859.  All of the children were born in West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin.  After the birth of their youngest son, the family moved to Clark County Wisconsin after driving into the township, in those early days with two yoke of cattle and two horses. They purchased property in section eight of Pine Valley Township, next to the school house.  Their neighbors were the families of J. H. Sturdevant, R. Boone, W. Johnsons, J. H. Beyer, E. S. Newton, C. Ackerman, F. Dux, J. Paulus, J. A. Kimball and D. B. Manes.

October 22, 1871 Arilla married Anson Bissell and they had three children, two sons, Roy and David and a daughter who died in childhood.  On Independence Day, 1877 Julia Evans married Edward F. Hubbard.  In 1880, Mary Louisa married Nicholas Blau and they had two sons, Noel and Robert.  David Eugene moved to Haryward, Wisconsin.

Edward Hubbard was chairman of the township sideboard and served as assessor several times. He was a member of the Farmers' Creamery Association of Neillsville and of the Odd Fellows' and Woodmen's lodges. Mr. Hubbard was married, July 4, 1877, to Julia Evans.  They had two sons, Leslie and Hugh. Leslie, was Clark County butter maker who later became connected with the Bowman Milk Company, and then became the headman in their bottling plant near Chicago.  He married Amelia Ketle and they had two children, Mildred and Charlotte. Hugh, was also an engineer with the Bowman Milk Company, in their plant at Bigfoot Prairie, Ill. He married Minnie Hanson and they named their son, Lyndon.

David S. Evans died February 17, 1888 and two years later, just two years into 1900, Fanny also passed away.  They are both buried in the Neillsville City Cemetery, Clark County, Wisconsin, as are some of their children and other family members.
