William W. Stevens,
a Civil War veteran, was born in South Wales, Erie Co., New York in May of
1841 (alt. 6 Sep 1835) to Samuel (b. 6 Sep 1802 in MA) and Relief (Crosby)
Stephens (1 Aug 1802). Samuel's second wife was Elizabeth Baker
French.
About 1870, he was married to Jane
Fillmore (b. May 1838, NY) in Walworth, Wisconsin, Oct. 21, 1869. She
was the daughter of Herman Fillmore. They had three children: William
Willie (b. 1873, WI), Lucinda Mabel (b. abt. 1875, WI) and Samuel "Sammie"
(b. May 1880, WI and named for his fraternal grandfather) and Their son,
Willie, married Anna Shoop.
He died 11 May 1899 of heart trouble
at his home in Shortville, Clark County, Wisconsin, and is buried in the
Neillsville City Cemetery, Pine Valley Twp. Clark County, Wisconsin.
