WILLIAM E. SOUTHARD William E. Southard, the son of
William E. and Hannah Varney Southard was born in Maine on March 10, 1832. He
was a private in Company K of the 9th Regiment, Maine, during the
Civil War. He settled in Clark County, Wisconsin in about 1880, and his brother,
Asa, settled also in that county about a year or so later. William did not marry
and spent his life first working as a cook, then doing farm labor for other
people. In 1910, he and his nephew worked at the same farm. William died on
March 25, 1914 and is buried in the Neillsville City Cemetery, Pine Valley
Township in Clark County, Wisconsin. His brother, two nephews and a niece also
are buried there. Census Records
