Alice Lillian Maria Neverman,
1914 ca. (Digital Artist's
Sketch) Alice Lillian Maria was the
daughter of Heinrich "Henry" Fredrick and Mary Sophie Catharine (Hintz)
Neverman. Both of her parents were natives of Mecklenburg, Germany and her
father was an industrious carpenter in Neillsville, Wisconsin. Alice was born
December 13, 1889, and graduated from the area public school and took a business
course. She later worked as stenographer at the Clark County, Wisconsin Court house
and was known to be efficient and reliable.
She was a musician and used her skills to benefit her church and community where
she was well known and liked. Alice's father died September 29, 1908, when she was
just eighteen years old. Her mother died August 6, 1926. Mary had
married Henry at the age of seventeen on November 4, 1868. They immigrated
to the United States as husband and wife from the village of Gravessmuellen,
Mecklenburg, Germany and settled in Clark County, Wisconsin where they built a
log cabin on the banks of the Black River. A year later, they built the
home where their thirteen children were born, including Alice. They were
charter members of the
Congregational Church in Neillsville. October 18, 1916, at the age of twenty-six, Alice became the wife of Arthur F. Flynn who was two years her senior.
He was the son of James Flynn and employed as
foreman of locomotive repair work in the railroad shops at Sioux Falls, S. D.
Alice's brother, Fred, acted as groomsman and Helen Crocker was the bridesmaid. The couple moved to Sioux Falls following their wedding. Both of them are now
buried in the Neillsville City Cemetery. He was born July 1, 1887 and died in
March of 1968. She was born December 13, 1889 and died April 4, 1981.
