A twinkling, star-filled sky lit up by a crescent-shaped moon set the stage for the Denk Family Singers, who performed at Tufts’ Mansion in Neillsville July 15.

Over 250 people sat in the yard’s garden listening to the sweet harmonies of the eight siblings and two nieces.

Brother Gordy Denk’s song "Loyal Wisconsin" electrified the crowd and nephew Jack Denk rocked the crowd with his rendition of "Johnny B Goode."

Nieces Mary Denk and Courtney Posteluk both sang original songs and joined in on harmony with their aunts.  Pat, Kathy and Linda’s trio sang old time standards "Goody Goody" and "Momma’s Gone Goodbye."

Sharon, Diane and Vonnie, the other trio, also sang old-time standards "Muskrat Ramble" and "Glory of Love", while their 97-year-old mother Mary Denk, formerly of Loyal, sang along to every song from the front row.  Brother Jeff Denk also sang an original song he wrote for his mother called "Hello Mama," when she was a mere 75 years old.

The high point of the evening was when the entire family sang "America the Beautiful."  One by one, the crowd rose to their feet and sang along.

Accompanying them on drums was Steve Cox of Marshfield and brothers Denny Beaver on steel guitar and Laurie (bass) Beaver, both formerly of Loyal.

Proceeds from the night went to the St. Anthony’s school fund in Loyal.

Gracious hosts James and Dawn Voss invited the Denk family back to sing the next time they are all in town together.
