N. C. Foster and son Willard were in Madison yesterday in attendance at a
meeting of the State Railroad Commission, when the permit for extension of the
Fairchild & Northeaster was to come up for hearing. We understand that the Omaha
has had a representative over the proposed line the past week endeavoring to
find out if there was any objection to the road, the evidence to be used,
presumably, before the commission to defeat the permit. As this line will take
away considerable business from the Mondovi branch, it is to be supposed that
the Omaha, with the aid of the towns on that branch, will try to interfere with
its construction. As the new line will be a great convenience to farmers who are
now compelled to haul their produce from eight to twelve miles to market, the
fact that it is likely to injure the business of a few towns or a competing
railroad, will not carry much weight. (Fairchild Observer)
