Herman Plath, a farmer living a mile and a half from Spencer, reported one of
the most fiendish and unusual acts ever committed in that community. On Saturday
night of last week Mr. Plath’s pasture was entered and his horses and cows
attached and repeatedly stabbed by some wanton criminal who left no trace of his
identity. One of the horses was killed outright and a two year old colt and two
cows were severely stabbed. Mr. Kempfert, who lives a half mile nearer Spencer,
was also visited and two of his cows lacerated.
