A very happy family reunion, and the first that has taken place since the fifty
day of July 1899, was held at the home of our popular mail carrier, Charles
Varney, the gathering being the family of his mother, Mrs. Cynthia E. Varney, on
Christmas Day, Dec 25, 1909, whose descendants at that time numbered seventeen.
They were Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Varney and seven children, three of whom were
married, and there were five grandchildren. Since that time, the death of H. W.
Varney, two marriage and nine births has changed and enlarged the family to
twenty-seven, all of whom were present and are: Mrs. Cynthia E. Varney; Mr. and
Mrs. Charles A. Varney, two sons and one daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Alba F. Varney,
four sons and one daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Warner and two daughters of
Hemlock; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Varney and three sons of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; Mr.
and Mrs. Ronald M. Lamont and son of Fargo, North Dakota; and Edith E. and Maude
B. Varney.
The services of an elaborate Christmas dinner was first served to Mrs. Cynthia
E. Varney and her fourteen grandchildren, and all enjoyed not only a good visit,
but many of the other good things that come at this festive time.
