Thorp High School (FFA Awards Banquet – 7 May 2016)
Saturday, May 7th, was a big night for area FFA and FFA Alumni members –
gathering together to commemorate the 76th Annual FFA Banquet at the Thorp High
School. Hosted by the FFA Officers, the local chapter welcomed the room full of
FFA Alumni members, current Middle and High School members, and friends and
family before sitting down to a delicious dinner.
During the Awards Banquet portion of the evening, members of the Thorp FFA and
the Thorp FFA Alumni presented some of their prestigious awards to individuals
and families from the Thorp area who have excelled in the agriculture field and
who have found ways to support and encourage the local FFA and FFA Alumni
organizations, as well as awarding scholarships and grants.
FFA Alumni President Amy Penterman presented the Friend of the Alumni award to
Philip Haas of Haas Sons, Inc. for their continued service to the local FFA and
FFA Alumni throughout the years.
Mike Lewien of the Alumni presented Joe and Geri Borowski with the farmer of the
year award – honoring them for their years’ worth of dedicated work on their
farm.
Evey year, the Thorp FFA Alumni presents current FFA members funds to assist
them in bringing an animal to the Clark County Fair. This year Mike Lewien
presented ten students funds for the 2016 fair before announcing the 2016 FFA
Scholarships in the amount of $500 to Vanessa Nicpon, Stephanie Hoff, Amber Noah
and Catie Cortese.
FFA officer Taylor Karaba then awarded the Distinguished Service award to the
entire kitchen staff in The Thorp Public Schools. The kitchen staff has served
in many FFA and FFA Alumni events throughout the year, including the annual FFA
and FFA Alumni Banquet.
During the annual banquet, the FFA recognized all of the Discovery Degree Award
recipients. Out of each set of recipients, one Star Degree award winner was
chosen the 2016 Star Discovery winner was Jeffrey Ciolkosz, Courtney Frese was
awarded the Star Greenhand Award, Star Chapter Farmer was given to Gracie
Hauser, and Raleigh Frankewicz earned the Star and Ag Placement Award.
Philip and Cory Haas accept the 2016 Friend of the FFA Alumni Award from Mike
Lewien.
