One evidence of the vitality of this village (Spencer) is the fact that there
are no vacant buildings. This is often inconvenient for those who desire to rent
a place to live in, but at the same time it shows that there is vigorous life in
the place. When you go into a town and notice one fourth of the buildings
labeled “to rent,” you seem to lose you grip on that place, and fell like
sliding out and looking for a location where there is more indication of life,
even if you are compelled to put up a shanty as a temporary home. You say there
must be something going on if the town is crowded with people.
