The Mum Sociable at the residence of W. H. Tilden last evening was very well
attended, and proved an enjoyable affair. The “mum” was kept up for some time by
most of those present, and when one looked at another and though how they were
all tongue tied, the provocation to laugh was irresistible, though laughing id
not incur the forfeiture of the dime. But by and by one says, “I can’t keep my
mouth shut any longer,” and then a few began to talk. The effect of this is like
sin, when they commence they want to get everyone else to do just as they are
doing, and before the hour of adjournment came all present had been relieved of
the dime.
