THE MARRIAGE OF BETHEL BLISS BARKLEY & HERMAN SCHWARZE

A very pretty but quiet wedding took place last Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1909 at Immanuel's Church, on the West Side (Greenwood, Clark County), when Miss Bethel Bliss Barkley and Dr. Herman Schwarze were united in holy bonds of matrimony by Rev. Otto Saewert.

The ceremony took place at the church at 8:30 o'clock, the bride looking very pretty in a gown of white silk voile. They were accompanied by Augusta and Albert Schwarze, brother and sister of the groom, and the parents of both bride and groom, being all that was present to witness the ceremony, after which the happy couple drove to Owen, where they took the train for Chicago, where they will reside during Mr. Schwarze's term of school, but not without receiving the usual ovations of their numerous friends who gathered near the church with an almost never-ending supply of old shoes, confetti, etc., that always follow in the make of so popular a young couple.
Mrs. Schwarze is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Barkley, and is a very esteemable and popular young lady, and a member of good standing in the Lady Maccabee Lodge, the ladies of which gave her a shower last Tuesday evening in honor of her marriage.

The groom, Dr. Herman Schwarze, is the son of H. M. Schwarze, a progressive farmer of the West Side, and is a promising young veterinary surgeon, having had wide experience at home and abroad in the service of the government in the Philippines, and in Chicago, where he is an instructor in the Chicago Veterinary College, 2537-39 State St.

The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Schwarze extend their heartiest congratulations and best wishes for a long, happy and prosperous future in which the Gleaner heartily joins.
