King Elgar W. (22 November 1906 – 24 August 1984)
Elgar W. King, 77, of 308 West Fifth St., Neillsville, died in Neillsville
Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 24.
The deceased was born on November 22, 1906, in Mauston to Roy and Jessie
(Stevens) King. As a youngster, he moved with his parents to the Menasha area
where he was educated. He then moved to the Neillsville are where he farmed in
the Town of Pine Valley for a few years. Employment was then held with Roy
Paulson on the U.S.10 road construction project. Later employment included work
on the Robert Quinnell and Kurt Marg fur farms and at Weyerhauser Lumber in
Marshfield. He was also employed by H.H. Van Gorden and Sons in Neillsville and
at a bowl factory west of Neillsville.
On November 17, 1926, he married Hilda Dollase in Neillsville ceremonies.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville.
Surviving him, besides his wife, are six sons, Harry, Maynard and Donald, all of
Neillsville, Eugene of Denver, Colorado, William of Berlin and Melvin of Withee:
and two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Carol) Zickert and Janice King, both of
Neillsville. Joining them are three sisters, Mildred Miller of Neillsville, Mrs.
Roy (Dimple) Riese of Yelm, Washington and Mrs. Frank (Alice) Mathews of Beaver
Dam: three brothers, LeRoy of Yelm, Washington, Ned of Kenosha and Elliot of
Juneau: plus 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son; a sister Jenita; and two brothers, Guy and
Marley.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, August 28, from Calvary
Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Forde officiating. Burial was made in the
Neillsville City Cemetery. The Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
