Thayer & Company’s mill is being pushed rapidly to completion, and before many
days we expect to hear its musical hum mingling with the many other mills in
Spencer. Mr. Thayer was in Fond du Lac a few days last week, purchasing
machinery for the mill, part of which is already here. He has secured the best
machinery manufacturing, and the mill, when completed will be one of the best on
the line. This is what makes permanent prosperity in a town, and we are glad to
see the mill nearing completion.

Thayer raised the smokestack to his sawmill yesterday afternoon. It is sixty
feet high, being ten feet higher than they usually are. This will make the
danger from falling sparks in that vicinity considerably less.

The machinery for Thayer’s Mill has nearly all arrived and is being put into
place as rapidly as possible. We took a look over the mill one day this week,
and were informed that it would be fired up for the first time next Monday,
although it was hardly expected that it would be in order to run by that time.

Thayer’s Mill is now running, and is turning out first class lumber at a rapid
rate. While the mill is not as large as some, yet it is a well-built mill, and
everything about it is now and first class, and we bespeak for the new mill a
long and successful career.

Two accidents have occurred at Thayer’s Mill, one on Saturday, by which George
Keyes of Marshfield had his fingers sawed in a rather painful, though not
serious manner, and another one Tuesday, when Mr. Hildrath, the head sawyer, in
some manner fell onto the saw and cut an ugly flesh wound in his arm. It is
fortunate that neither were more serious. The saw was not in motion when the
accident happened.
