Northup, Charles R. (6 September 1942 – 8 January 2021) With Flag
Charles R. “Charlie” Northup, 78, of Greenwood, passed away at Marshfield
Medical Center on Friday, January 8, 2021.
Charles Robert Northup was born on September 6, 1942 in Neillsville, to Ralph E.
and Bernice L. (Mertes) Northup. He was raised and received his education in
Neillsville area schools. After completing his schooling, Charlie served in the
U.S. Army from September 5, 1961 until his honorable discharge on May 10, 1963.
He was united in marriage to Donna M. Fitzl on April 25, 1964 at Our Savior's
Lutheran Church in Greenwood. They later divorced. Charlie worked at Rollohome
in Spencer, and later at Wick Building's in Marshfield. He married Ruth Karlen
on August 8, 1981 and they later divorced. On September 2, 1988, Charlie was
united in marriage to Bernice E. Grass in Neillsville. They resided in Greenwood
and he continued to work at Wick Building's until its' closing. In retirement,
Charlie loved spending time with his family, his cats and dogs, especially his
dog, Annie, buying lottery tickets and going to the casino.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of Greenwood; 6 children: Roger Northup of
Loyal, Laurie (Steve) Schiller of Marshfield, Susan Kautzer of Loyal, Peggy
Espinoza of Abbotsford, William Grass (Jocelyn Martinet) of Greenwood, Kenneth
Grass (friend Barb) of Appleton; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 4
brothers: Donnie Northup of Lublin, Dale (Diane) Northup of Marshfield, Jim
(Kathy) Northup of Greenwood, Robert Northup of Spencer; several nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Loyal Sportsman's Club on Saturday,
January 16, 2021 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
