Knapp, Deward E. "Duke" (1923 - 2000)

Deward E (Duke) Knapp, 76, Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Pittsville, died Sunday June 17, 2000 at Hospice Unit in Indianapolis. Funeral services were held at Feeny Hornak Mortuary at 11 a.m. Thursday June 22. The Rev James W. Abernathy officiated and burial was in Washington Park North Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.  Deward was born July 11, 1923 in Ontario to Leonard and Clara (Stoikes) Knapp.

 

He was educated in the Town of Cary School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He married Lois (Lindquist) on May 10, 1946, which later ended in divorce Deward was employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Company from 1946 to 1950, and Armour Meats from 1950-1963. He then moved to Indianapolis where he married Frieda (Mae) Stewart and was employed for 27 years with Anderson Lumber Supply Company, until retiring in 1990.

 

Survivors include his wife, Frieda his children, Deward E (Pat) Knapp of Manitowoc, Ronald T (Marcia) Knapp of Indianapolis, Steven G (Vickie) Knapp at Marshfield, Carl L (Sue) Knapp of Pittsville and Douglas L (Kathy) Knapp one brother, Clayton (Isabel) Knapp of Port Edwards two sisters, Delorous Mews of Loyal (Clark County, WI) and Virginia Mowacck of Milwaukee 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his mother and father (Leonard Clara) one sister at birth and one brother, Raymond.
