Straus, Mildred (1912 - 1983)


Funeral services for Mildred Straus, 71, of Greenwood, Clark County, were at 11 a.m., Friday, March 11, 1983.

Mrs. Straus died on Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 1983, at Memorial Hospital, Neillsville.

Rev. Alwyn York officiated at the service at Zion United Church of Christ. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery with Lloyd Peterson, Charles Kramer, Robert Worden, Robert Straughan, Brian Straughan and Randy Straus serving as pallbearers. Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, was in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Schmidt was born to Edward and Alma Schmidt in Chicago, Ill., on Jan. 28, 1912. She received her education at Chicago Schools.


On Aug. 20, 1932, she and Gilbert Straus were married at Chicago. After their marriage, they lived in Yorkfield, Ill., until moving to the Town of Beaver in 1951, where they farmed. They then moved to the City of Greenwood. For the past three and one-half years, she has been residing at Memorial Home, Neillsville.

She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and its Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her husband, Gilbert one son, Gilbert of Sussex, Wis. one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Vivian) Straughan of Waukesha three grandchildren two sisters, Mrs. Gust Nelson of Santa Paula, Cal. And Mrs. Evelyn Hammerberg of Palatine, Ill.

Preceding him in death were her parents and one brother.
