Thwing, Rufus E. (1890 - 1983)


Rufus E. Thwing was born Feb. 14, 1890, in Columbia County, Wis. He died on sept. 25, 1983, in Britton, S.D.

He moved with his parents, Willmette and Clara (Scovel) Thwing to a farm in the Town of Beaver, Clark County. As a young man he went to North Dakota, where he farmed before retiring. He never married and was a soldier in WWI.

Services were held at the congregational church in Havana, N.D., on Sept. 27, 1983, with the Rev. Myron Reed officiating. Graveside military rites were held by the Anderson-Wortman Post 108 American Legion. Burial was in the Havana Cemetery.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Albert (Bernice) Ehlert of Abbotsford and a brother, Henry Thwing, Clintonville, besides five nieces and six nephews.
