Kneeland, William ( - 1881)
The remains of Wm. Kneeland, the young man who died at the Rossman
House (Neillsville, Clark County) last week, were buried at the
expense of the county last Wednesday, all effort to bear from his
friends up to that time having failed. A few hours after the body
had been consigned to the grave, however, they were hears from in
the person of his step-father and a half brother, who put in an
appearance, claiming, to be able and willing to pay all expenses
attendant upon his sickness and death. Acting in the interest of
the county and believing that the parties referred to intended
doing as they said, Mr. Campbell, on of the superintendents of the
poor, gave them all assistance in obtaining a statement of the
attendant expenses, but on Thursday morning they appeared to have
changed their minds, and left without paying a single bill, or ever
thanking those who had rendered them assistance for what they had
done. Not being satisfied with their informal leave taking, Messrs.
Campbell and Fullmer, of the superintendent's of the county poor,
authorized Capt. Tolford, in the capacity of an officer of the law,
to induce them to return. As we go to press, their return has not
been announced, but they will come. We have not been able to learn
the names of these parties, but they hail fro Ridgeway, Minn.
