Karpinske, Edwin W. (9 FEB 1918 - 28 NOV 2001)
Edwin W. Karpinski, 83, Colby, died on Wednesday, Nov. 28,
2001, at his residence, A memorial service will be held in the
spring, with internment at the Colby Memorial Cemetery.
Edwin William Karpinske was born on Feb. 9, 1918, in Stanley, to
William and Hazel (nee Brunno) Karpinske. On Aug. 28, 1942, he
enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper ranger during
World War II. He received his honorable discharge as Staff Sgt. On
Feb. 6, 1946. He married Vera Esterling on Nov. 24, 1943, in
Seattle, Wash. They farmed in the town of Beaver, Clark County for
34 years and in 1980, sold the farm to reside in Colby. He spent
part of his spare time painting, working seasonally at Figi's,
Marshfield, and in maintenance at the Clark County Health Care
Center, Owen. For the past eight years, he served as a nutrition
driver for Meals on Wheels in Abbotsford, Colby and Unity area. He
served on the LaTart School Board of the town of Beaver for three
years, on the Zion UCC Immanuel Church Board for 17 years, was a
member of the Loyal American Legion for 22 years, and enjoyed polka
dancing.
Survivors include one son, Verlan (Debbie) Karpinske, Appleton one
daughter, Evonne Karpinske, Eau Claire, and two grandchildren,
Jeremy (Jamie Seegers) Karpinske and Shaya (Nathan) Ottestad one
great-grandchild, Madalyn Mika Ottestad special friend, Cora
Herrinton, Marshfield, and one brother, Ray Karpinske, Seattle,
Wash.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Vera Florence Karpinske, on
Dec. 16, 1992.
Maurina Funeral Service, Abbotsford, is assisting the family with
arrangements.
