Franklin H. Zimmerman, 78, Loyal, Clark
County, died on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, in the Palliative Care
Unit at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were
held at 2 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 22, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal.
The Rev. Daniel Zimmerman officiated. Burial will be in the Loyal
Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Franklin Harold Zimmerman was born on Aug. 18, 1923, in the town of
Berlin, Marathon County, to Elmer and Lora (nee Klebnow) Zimmerman.
He received his education at the Maple Center School and Loyal High
school. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942, serving in
the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He received his honorable
discharge in 1945 and returned to the Loyal area. He was employed
as a licensed cheesemaker by several local cheese factories. He
married Blanche I. Schuette on April 23, 1947, at St. Luke's
Lutheran Church, town of Green Grove. In 1947, the couple moved to
Rockford, Ill., where he was employed by Bentley Bielke as a
carpenter. They returned to Wisconsin in 1953 and farmed in the
Willard area until 1958, when he became employed by the Ace
Hardware Co. in Loyal. He went to a Marshfield technical school and
received his master plumber's license. He continued to work in
plumbing and installing furnaces for Ace Hardware, and later for
the Midland Cooperative. In 1973, he relocated to Phoenix, Ariz.,
and then to Colorado Springs, Colo., working for Exidyne Fluid
Technologies Inc. He retired in 1985 and moved to Neillsville,
where he again went to work as a plumber. In 1990, he and his wife
moved back to Loyal. She died on Aug. 16, 1998. He married Margaret
Kollmansberger on April 29, 2000, at Trinity Lutheran Church,
Loyal. They resided in Loyal until the time of his death. He was an
active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He held various offices
in the Loyal American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, card
playing and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret, Loyal one son, Dale (Cynthia)
Zimmerman, Albuquerque, N.M. three step-sons, James (Marge)
Kollmansberger, Stratford, Lew (Rita) Kollmansberger, Madison, and
Guy (Debbie) Kollmansberger, Prentice three grandchildren, Steven
Zimmerman, Albuquerque, N.M., and Aaron and Jamie Zimmerman,
Colorado Springs, Colo. two step-grandchildren, Roberta and Russell
Kollmansberger, Stratford and one brother, Lloyd (Delores)
Zimmerman, Neillsville.
Preceding him in death were his parents his first wife, Blanche and
four brothers, Wilber, LaVerne, Elroy and Reuben.
Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with
arrangements.
