Van Gorder, Mae (21 NOV 1884 - 13 JAN
1984)
Mae Van Gorder, 99, a resident of Neillsville
Memorial Home since Sept. 1982, formerly of Greenwood, Clark
County, died Friday, Jan. 13, 1984, at Memorial Hospital,
Neillsville.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16, 1984, at Zion
United Church of Christ, Greenwood. Officiating was Rev. Alwyn
York. Burial was in the Thorp Cemetery, with grandsons serving as
pallbearers. Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, was in charge of
arrangements.
Mae Prouty was born to Vernon and Rebecca (nee McFitredge) Prouty,
at Neenah, Town of Ellington, on Nov. 21, 1884. She received her
education at a rural Thorp School.
She was married to George Van Gorder in 1903. After their marriage
they farmed in the Thorp and Maplehurst areas. After his death in
1938, she worked for Mater Package Co. at Owen for many years. She
later retired and moved to Greenwood, where she lived with her
daughter.
She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Arno (Vernie) Decker of
Greenwood three grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband one daughter two sisters
one brother one grandson and one great-great-grandchild.
