Baird, Ione (2 NOV 1903 - 5 FEB 1984)


Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1984, at Grace United Methodist Church, Greenwood, for Mrs. Ione Baird, 80, of 201 S. Andrews Ave., Greenwood, Clark County.

Mrs. Baird died at 5 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 5, 1984, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Officiating at the service was Rev. Norbert Miller. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery, with Frank Parkel, Bunny Hare, Walter Backus, Henry Smith, Harold Blaasch and Mike Olson serving as pallbearers. Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, handled arrangements.

Ione Shupe was born to Frank and Julia (nee Emerson) Shupe, at Loyal on Nov. 2, 1903. She received her education at Loyal Schools.

On April 7, 1925, she and Hastings Baird were married at Loyal. After their marriage, they owned and operated Baird's IGA Store in Greenwood until the late 50's, when they retired and continued living in Greenwood.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Women's Ladies Aid and Royal Neighbors.

Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Janice) Steiger of Greenwood, Mrs. Richard (Virginia) Engle of La Mesa, Cal., and Mrs. Norman (Donna Mae) Larson of Madison two sons, Jerry and Robert, both of Stevens Point one sister, Mrs. Elsie Ziemendorf of Greenwood two brothers, Glen Shupe of Spencer and John Shupe of Berlin 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were one brother and five sisters.
