Reil, Robert P. (1 JUN 1937 - 7 APR 2002)


GRANTON - Robert Reil, 64, of Granton, died April 7, 2002, at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.

A memorial service for Bob will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at United Church of Christ in Neillsville. Music will be provided by Deon Spangler, organist, and Jody Rueth, soloist.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the Neillsville Veteran's Council.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the National Emphysema Foundation, 15 Stevens St., Norwalk, CT 06850.

Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Robert's family with the arrangements.

Robert Peter Reil was born June 1, 1937, in Mount Holly, N.J., the son of Joseph F. and Gladys (Stevens) Reil. He graduated from South River High School in New Jersey and then enlisted into the United States Navy in 1957. On July 5, 1958, he was united in marriage to Joan Coakley in Richmond, Calif.

Bob served a 20-year career in the Navy, specializing as a Cryptological Technician. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer and then spent 10 years on the Fleet Reserve. After his discharge from the service, Bob attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He obtained his teaching degree and taught grade school at St. Mary's in Colby. He later became a dispatcher at the Clark County Sheriff's Department for three years. And, for 14 years served as the Veteran's Service Officer in Clark County, retiring in 1997.

Bob was a member of the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, the Forty Eight, the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville, the Fleet Reserve Association, the United States Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association, the UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association and the AARP.

Bob is survived by his wife, Joan his children, Robert (Kay) Reil of Eagle River, Diane Jacobs of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Daniel (Sue) Reil of Jerome, Idaho, Cynthia (Jim Ley) Reil of Chili, Micki Reil of Medford and Richard (Bridget) Reil of Neillsville. Bob is also survived by his grandchildren, Jenna, Robby, Emily, Joshua, Brendan, Addie, Dani Jo, Benjamin, Tiffany, Taylor, Dessa and Cameron. And, a brother, David (Sharon) Reil of Highland Park, N.J.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joseph and Paul and a sister, Viva.
