Burpee, Gain (6 FEB 1823 - 30 DEC 1881)
Died, at the residence of his son, Chas. Burpee, in Weston, Clark
County, Wis., Dec. 30, 1881, Gain Burpee, aged 59 years.
Mr. Burpee was born at Fredrickton, New Brunswick, Feb. 6, 1823. He
lived 20 years at Penbroke, N.H., where he was much respected by
the community as a man of sterling worth. It was here he became a
Christian and joined the M.E. Church. In 1875 he came to Clark
County and made his home with his son Charles, where he departed
this life on the 30ths inst. Mr. Burpee leaves many friends in this
county, and what is still better, in his own immediate
neighborhood. He was greatly respected, and when stricken down with
that terrible disease, congestion of the lungs, there was an
evident sympathy and proffered assistance by all the people,
showing the esteem in which he was held as a citizen and neighbor.
The deceased leaves four children who deeply mourn his loss. His
wife still resides at Penbroke. The funeral was held at the
residence of Mr. Charles Burpee last Sunday. A large congregation
was in attendance. His mortal remains were deposited in the
Neillsville Cemetery.
