Thomas, Grace (1802 - 6 MAR 1882)
Died, on March 6th, 1882, in the town of Levis, Clark Co., Wis.,
Mrs. Grace Thomas, at the advanced age of 75 or 80 years.
Mrs. Thomas maiden name was Grace Campbell, and her childhood days
were spent in Scotland. She came to Clark County some fourteen
years ago with her husband, James Thomas. Mrs. Thomas was lost in
the woods on the East Fork about 12 years ago, where he perished.
His remains were found about two years thereafter and interred in
the family cemetery, which now contain the bodies of "Uncle Moses
McLay" and " Aunt Gracy Thomas." Mrs. Thomas was loved and
respected by all who knew her. Her Christian principles were deeply
rooted. Presbyterian in her early training, she never swerved from
the faith of her fathers. She had no relatives in America as far as
she knew and she had lost sight of her only brother in Scotland.
Her funeral was largely attended and many mourners followed her
remains to the grave. Many were the tears that were shed, and long
will her memory be precious.
