Brown, Elizabeth (1811 - 14 JAN 1884)

Died, at the residence of her son, Capt. T. J. LaFlesh, in the town of Sherwood Forest, Clark County, Mrs. Elizabeth Brown, on Monday morning, Jan. 14, 1887, aged 73 years.

Mrs. Brown was born in Colchester, Canada West. She has been three times married and was the mother of six children, John Crosby, of Waterloo, Iowa, Capt. T. J. LaFlesh, of Clark County, William W. LaFlesh now in the Black Hills, Eugene Brown, of Bayfield, and C.W. Brown, of Clark County, and a daughter who died in infancy. She came west in 1842 and first settle in Hazel Green, grant County, Wis., where she lived until 1863, when she removed to Necedah, Juneau County, where she resided until 1869, when she came to Clark County, and since then has been living with her son, Capt. T. J. LaFlesh. During her eventful life, struggling in her widowhood to raise her children while not blessed with much of this world's goods, manifested fortitude and a resolution that kept her above the buffeting waves of adversity. Although a member of no church, she adhered to the doctrine of the M.E. Church and lived a Christian life, and her acquaintances and those who knew her best loved her and admired her noble traits of character. She has been in feeble health for four years, yet her dissolution was not though so near when on last Saturday she was confined to her bed. During the Sabbath a physician was called, who thought her in no immediate danger, but at half past one o'clock on Monday morning as Mr. LaFlesh was raising her up she quietly passed away while in his arms, like one going to sleep. Thus passed away one who had trodden the tougher paths of life to that bourne from which none have returned to unfold its mysteries. Her funeral took place today from the M.E. Church of this city, Rev. J.D. Brothers officiating, her remains being interred in the Neillsville Cemetery.
