Suthcool, John (1835 - 30 JAN 1887)
Died, at his residence in this city of paralysis, on Sunday
morning, Jan. 30, 1887, at 8:30 o'clock, John Suthcool, aged 53
years.
Mr. Suthcool was born in Pennsylvania in 1835, was married in that
state and came to Wisconsin immediately before the war. He
enlisted, and as orderly sergeant of Company B., 50th Wisconsin,
served his country faithfully for three years and four months. When
peace was restored he came to this place where he has resided
since. During the war he contracted a dread disease which
terminated in paralysis and by reason of which he has been a
painful sufferer ever since, prostrate sometimes for long periods.
His sufferings eased sometime before his death, as the ret after
the battle, and almost as gladly and with as much relief passed
from this life, as he had many a time from keeping vigil on the
field of battle, to bivouac in safety. A wife and six children
mourn his loss as do all who knew him.
As a member of the G.A.R., the funeral which took place from the
residence a 2 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, was under the auspices
of that lodge, and was largely attended.
