Kerns, Allie ( - 29 JAN 1888)
Died, in this city
(Neillsville, Clark County), Sunday morning, Jan. 29, 1888, after a
lingering illness of a month, Allie Kearns, ONLY CHILD OF Mr. and
Mrs. Thos. Kerns.
The people of this city, although expecting the sad event for many
days, were shocked when the announcement was made Sunday morning,
"Allie is dead." He had grown up in the city, known and respected
by all. He was an energetic young business man, and gave promise of
being one of the leading men of the city in business affairs. He
was the idol of his parents, and he deserved to be. His care and
affection for his mother, his tender solicitude for her comfort and
pleasure was known to aid, and her loss is hard to be borne. He was
a help and a blessing to his father, who is left with no one to
perpetuate his name or aid him in the now melancholy journey of
life. While we cannot assuage the grief which wells up in his
heart, we can sympathize with him in his great loss, for we have
felt the heavy hand of the despoiler and know how grievous it is to
be borne. Still, it becomes us to philosophically submit, for we
know .(my copy we unreadable here).
The funeral which took place from St. Mary's Church, on Tuesday,
was largely attended, and the great numbers present showed the
esteem in which the deceased was held by his fellow citizens, as
well as their respect and sympathy for the bereaved parents.
