French, B.F. (1831 - 11 FEB 1888)
Died, in this city
(Neillsville, Clark County), Saturday morning, of heart disease,
Dr. B.F. French, aged 56 years.
He had been a sufferer for a long time with an infection of the
throat, but that had apparently become much better, and it was
hoped he would recover his usual health and live for many years.
But it was not to be. His life is known to all men, and he was
universally respected. With strong opinions of his own and able to
sustain them in all places, he was willing to believe that others
could honestly differ with him, and were entitled to his respect
and friendship, although not subscribing to his ideas of policy or
right. He has built his monument to Clark County and it is one that
will endure as long as the county endures. Fulsome praises and mere
high sounding words in an obituary notice are useless means to keep
his memory green in the hearts of those who knew him best. His life
work is over its trials and its greatness are well known to all. As
a good citizen he lived, and in death he is gathered to his
fathers, honored and mourned by all. He leaves a wife and six
children to grieve over the loss of the husband and father. May
they be comforted in the hope of one day meeting him in a better,
brighter land.
