Bacon, Everett (1837 - 31 AUG 1889)

Everett Bacon, an old resident of this city (Neillsville, Clark County), and who went to the far west two or three years ago, died suddenly at Portland, Ore., Saturday, Aug. 31, 1889. The following particulars of the sad occurrence is taken from the Portland Evening Telegram of Sept. 2:

"The funeral of Mr. Everett Bacon, who died very suddenly last Saturday, took place this afternoon under the direction of Washington Lodge, A. F. A.M.

The announcement of his death was made Saturday. The particulars are as follows: Saturday morning he thought he would go to work and went to his bench, he being a carpenter. About 9 o'clock he was seen to fall to the floor and remain motionless. Some men went to his assistance, and found him unconscious. He was immediately carried into the house and Dr. Caples summoned, who on arriving saw that the man was suffering from a stroke of paralysis, and beyond all human help. He lingered in an unconscious state until one o'clock, when he died without a struggle. He never spoke after receiving the stroke. He was a man about 52 years of age, and leaves a wife and four children."

Mrs. L. M. Sturdevant, of this city, Mrs. D. Bailey of Greenwood, and Mrs. Wilson of Black River Falls, are sisters of the deceased. Mr. B. was an honest and upright citizen of this city for a great many years, and witnessed the growth of the town from a small village to a prosperous city. The attack of paralysis which caused his death was the third stroke he had experience. He went west thinking he would have better health, but the complaint had taken too great a hold upon his system. The family and other relatives of the deceased have the earnest sympathy of the numerous acquaintances here.

The deceased was insured in several benefit association, aggregating some 5900.
