----Source:: CLARK COUNTY REPUBLICAN PRESS (Neillsville, Wis.) 01/18/1890
Morgan, George J. (1834 - 15 JAN 1890)
Wednesday night at 9:30 o'clock, Mr. Geo. J. Morgan passed to his
eternal rest, after a short illness. A week or so previous he was
taken with the prevailing disease, influenza, but recovered
sufficiently last week Wednesday to resume his work in the flouring
mill, where he was head miller. He worked that day and Thursday and
was taken ill again Friday, this time the disease developing into
lung fever, resulting in his death as stated.
Mr. Morgan was born in Baden, Germany, in 1834. He learned his
trade, that of millwright and miller, in that country. He emigrated
to Lancaster, Co., Pa., in 1854, and came to Wisconsin in the
spring of 1868, settling at Bangor. Afterwards he worked in mills
in Lewis Valley. Then he bought a farm and engaged in agricultural
pursuits for five years. He then sold his farm and moved to Salem
He was married in Pennsylvania to Miss Mary E. Schriner, who
survives him. He came to Neillsville, Clark County in 1883,
engaging work in the Neillsville Flouring mills. He was the father
of nine children, two of whom are dead. Three of his children are
married, one the wife of John Landgraf, engineer at the electric
light works in this city another daughter, the wife of Geo. E.
Stinzl, of Bangor and his eldest son, Geo. E. who also resides at
Bangor. Mr. Morgan was a man universally respected in social and
business relations. Quiet and unassuming, he won firm friends
wherever he resided. To say he gave and asked only what was right
and just with his fellow men portrays his character as well as a
column of praise. His family has the sympathy of the community in
their hour of trial.
The funeral will take place tomorrow.
