Makovec, Frank M. (18 JUL 1912 - 5 APR
2002)
Frank M. Makovec, 89, Owen, Clark County,
died on Friday, April 5, 2002, at the Clark County Health Care
Center, Owen, where he had resided since November 2000. Funeral
services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, at Holy
Rosary Catholic Church, Owen. The Rev. Al Jakubowski officiated.
Full military rites were provided by the Van Huizen Fritz
Owen-Withee American Legion Post 123. Burial was in Riverside
Cemetery, Withee. Pallbearers were John Szymanski,
Claire Milliren, Joe Makovec, Kim Fredrickson, Todd Seliskar and
Robert Mertens.
Frank Michael Makovec was born on July 18, 1912, in the town of
Green Grove, to Frank Sr. and Frances (nee Petelen) Makovec. He
served in the U.S.Army from 1940-45 during World War II in the 5th
Medical Unit in the European Theater. He married Mary Seliskar on
Nov. 17, 1945, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. They farmed
in the town of Green Grove until they retired in 1973 and moved to
Owen. In May 2000, they moved to the Angelus Retirement Community,
Colby. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Holy
Name Society and the Marian Council of Knights of Columbus. He was
a 50-year member of the Owen American Legion, where he served as
treasurer and in other officer
positions. His interests included fishing, hunting, and playing
cards with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, Colby one son, Gerald "Gerry"
Makovec, Marshfield one daughter, Margaret "Margie" (Barry) Sain,
Glasgow, Mont. one granddaughter, Bobbie Jo two
great-grandchildren, Vanessa and Tiffany and two sisters, Mary
Becker, Minneapolis, and Molly (August) Mertens, Stanley.
Preceding him in death were his parents two brothers, Joseph
Makovec and John Makovec and two sisters, Ann Cole and Frances
Botsch.
Maurina Funeral Service, Owen, assisted the family with
arrangements.
