Tews, Son of Carl (1887 - 17 JUL 1894)
There was a horrible accident at the farm of Carl Tews a few miles
east of the city on Tuesday afternoon, through which a little seven
year old child lost its life by the slow process of bleeding to
death. Mr. Tews was out in the field with the reaper cutting grain
and his little son accompanied him. While the father's attention
was engaged in making a turn around a stump the child got in front
of the reaper and was caught in the sickle. The sickle moves at a
great rate when the machine is in motion and the child's left leg
was almost completely severed before the machine could be stopped.
One of the bones was sawed off and the other bone nearly so. The
child was carried to the house and Dr. K.W. Doege was at once
summoned from this city. The physician arrived to late, however,
the child having bled to death before his arrival.
The funeral takes place today from the Lutheran Church in this city. (Marshfield News)
