Selves, John (16 MAY 1831) - 7 MAR 1895)
John Selves died at his home in Pleasant
Ridge, Clark County, on Thursday afternoon, March 7, 1895, after a
lingering illness, at the age of 64 years.
He was born in England, May 16, 1831. He came to America with his
parents in 1835 and settled in Buffalo. In the fall of 1866 he
moved to Clark County and bought a farm in Pleasant Ridge, where he
has since resided.
He was one of the oldest settlers in Clark County and very highly
respected, in consequence of which fact the Pleasant Ridge M.E.
Church, to which the funeral services were held on Sunday
afternoon, March 10th, was crowded, and many could not get in, Rev.
Hill preached the funeral sermon.
Mr. Selves leaves a wife and family of seven children five sons and
two daughters, William, Thomas, Elmer, Edward, Richard, Mrs. Henry
Brown, Mrs. August Snyder, all of whom reside either in the city or
near it.
