Cook, Charles (1883 - 26 AUG 1895)
Charles, a twelve-year-old son of John Cook, was accidentally
drowned Monday afternoon while bathing at Cornwell's eddy in Black
River south of the city (Neillsville, Clark County). He was in the
water with several companions shortly after dinner, and being
unable to swim very well he must have got out beyond his depth,
with no help at hand and was drowned.
Several charges of dynamite were fired to raise the body, but
without success, and divers went to work hunting for him. About
four o'clock he was located by Theodore Discow and brought to the
shore and take to the house of his father.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Rev. Hill officiating. The remains
were interred in the city cemetery.
