Rodman, Lime W. (20 OCT 1828 - 17 OCT 1895)

Last week Thursday L. W. Rodman, who lives just south of the city (Neillsville, Clark County), came to town after dinner to make some preparations for threshers who he expected to be at his house shortly. He then went out to Mrs. Klug's farm, where the machine was at work, and seeing that they were short of help he went to work to help them out. The machine was set in the driveway of the huge barn, throwing straw out and the bundles were pitched from a platform over the machine about 14 feet high. As is customary with Lime when he was working around a thresher, he went to pitching bundles to the machine from the platform. While thus at work it appears that his fork stuck in a bundle and when he went to pitch the fork slipped from his hand and went into the cylinder, but was removed before any harm was done to either the machine or the operators. In endeavoring to secure his fork he must have slipped, falling from the platform, striking on the belt and from there he fell onto the floor, striking his head against a dry good box, and broke his neck, from which cause he died instantly. Medical aid was immediately summoned and everything possible was done in the endeavor to bring him too, but all to no purpose, as the doctor upon arrival pronounced him dead. The body was removed to his home and prepared for burial.

Mr. Rodman was born in Ohio Oct. 20, 1828, married Deborah Jane Fisher, and came to Wisconsin, settling on Black River between Jackson and Clark Counties in 1853, 42 years ago. He has lived in Clark County on his present farm about 38 years. They have raised four children, namely, Adelbert, Herschel, Mrs. William Lapp and Mrs. Robert French, all of whom reside in this vicinity.

The funeral was held Saturday, conducted by Rev. Foster, and the remains interred in the city cemetery.

Thus another old settler has been summoned to his eternal home.
