BALCH CALDWELL LEASON |
----Source: CLARK COUNTY REPUBLICAN PRESS (Neillsville, Wis.) 11/14/1895
Balch, Henrietta (JAN 1836 - 11 NOV 1895)
Mrs. Henrietta C. Balch died at her home on
the North Side of this city (Neillsville, Clark County), Monday
afternoon at 4 o'clock, Nov. 11, 1895, of heart disease, at the age
of 60 years.
Henrietta Caldwell was born in Green County, N.Y., in Jan. 1836.
She came to Waukesha County, Wis., in 1845, and was married in
Washington County to Fred A. Balch in 1852. They went to Sheboygan
County to live, where for a number of years, Mr. Balch engaged in
the mercantile business. In Dec. 1880 they moved to Neillsville,
where they have since resided. They have had five children four
boys and one girl, on boy and the girl died some years ago.
She leaves, besides her husband, three sons, and Sadie, an adopted
daughter. Her father, W.C. Caldwell, of Hingham, Sheboygan County,
was here only a few weeks ago to visit his only to living
daughters, Mrs. Leason and Mrs. Balch.
Mr. and Mrs. Balch have shared the weals and woes of this world
together as man and wife for nearly 41 years, and her sudden and
unexpected death was a severe blow to her husband and family,
although she had been ailing for some time, though not confined to
her bed. The day of her death her health apparently was the best
she had enjoyed for some time previous, and had entertained a
number of callers just previous to her death.
Mrs. Balch was a good Christian woman, generous and kind one who
had a pleasant word for all, and was though a great deal of by
everyone, old and young, and a woman who will be greatly missed
both in society and by the sick and distressed, to whom she
administered in her quiet and thoughtful manner. Hers was a noble
character of which too much praise cannot be uttered, and if there
is a Heaven and a God, she is surely there.
The funeral services were held from the residence yesterday
afternoon, Rev. Michael officiating. A large concourse of people
were in attendance to witness the last sad rites performed over one
they held so dear.
