Carl Gottlieb RODER
was born December 10, 1831 in Silesia in Germany. He had lost both
parents during infancy and was brought up by his guardian. On
October 25th, 1854 he was united in marriage with Miss Anna R.
Handke, who died Nov. 3, 1905. With his wife and two oldest
children he emigrated to America in June of 1866 and landed in
Sheboygan Co., Wis. where he made his home until Oct. 1870. He then
moved to Clark Co, settling upon a farm in the town of Grant where
he has since resided until his death, which occurred on May 11,
1914 from the effects of a stroke of paralysis.
To them were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy. He
is survived by five children, namely: August of Neillsville,
(Christine) Mrs. Henry Sterns of Duluth, Minn., (Ernestine) Mrs.
Ernest Nitschke of Lynn, Paul on the home farm in Grant and
(Emelia) Mrs. Carl Krause of Grant and also twenty
grandchildren.
He was brought up in the German Lutheran faith and was a devout
member of that church during a long life. He was a man who won and
deserved high respect from all who knew him, doing well his work in
life. The funeral will be held this Thursday afternoon from the
German Lutheran church, Rev. Reiff officiating.
